The event is meant to provide IVS organisations and like-minded stakeholders with a space to discuss about migration and the freedom of movement, particularly in Europe. The forum will also showcase good practices from the International Voluntary Service movement in response to this topic.
For the second year in a row, the members of the Alliance have chosen to make migration the network’s annual topic, which means that a variety of actions and activities in 2017 focussed on this subject. The Open Forum on Freedom of Movement will be an opportunity to evaluate these activities and to discuss about how to proceed for the future. We will do it together with invited guests from our sister IVS networks at global level as well as with other youth networks and stakeholders with whom we share common values and visions for the future.
Two important reference documents will be presented and used as basis for discussion: the IVS position paper on the Freedom of Movement that has been adopted between 2016 and 2017 by all major IVS networks (it is accompanied by a supporting explanatory document), and the Resolution on Key Issues concerning European Youth that has been developed by the networks YEN, VYRE, Phiren Amenca and Alliance along 2017.
The event will take place in Glyfada (Athens, Greece) on 31 October, right before the annual General Assembly of the Alliance, and it is hosted by our member organisation Elix. The programme can be downloaded here.
