Gender Equality Working Group
The Gender Equality has been established by the General Assembly 2016 and started functioning on January 2017.
The Gender Equality Working Group (GEWG) has the purpose of promoting gender equality as one of the core values of the Alliance, and to assure the development of the network and its member organisations with regard to the topic.
It will do so by providing educational opportunities for Alliance members as well as awareness rising strategies such as Common Action Days. It will also function as a body that assesses the needs for development of the network regarding the topic of gender equality as well as providing information and tools that can be implemented to address these needs.
Apart from that, it will also support networking with the sister IVS networks in order to join forces and create a common strategy on how to address the topic within the IVS movement.
Development of the policy on gender equality within the Alliance
- November 2014 – Proposal to develop gender equality activities by Training Needs Working Group (TNWG)
- July 2015 – Training session “Fair Play”
- November 2015 – Task Force on Gender Equality approved by the General Assembly 2015
- Spring 2016 – Publication of the survey’s results on gender based violence in Alliance IVS projects
- August 2016 – Training Session “Fair Play 2.0”
- November 2016 – Gender Equality Working Group (GEWG) approved by the General Assembly 2016
- March 2017 – Official launch of #NotInMyCamp campaign
- May 2017 – Study Session “Self-Assessment on Gender Equality” SAGE
- November 2017 – First draft of the Alliance Policy Paper on Gender Equality
- September 2018 – Closing of the #NotInMyCamp campaign
- November 2018 – Approval of Alliance Policy Paper on Gender Equality by the General Assembly 2018
The specific tasks of Gender Equality Working Group for 2019 are described in the strategic Plan of Action 2021-2022 adopted by the General Assembly of members 2020.
