The Alliance, founded in 1982, is presently made up of 50 full, associate and candidate member organisations. 37 of our members are based in 20 Erasmus+ programme countries; 6 in Armenia, Bielorussia, Ukraine and Russia; 7 in Canada, Japan, India, South Korea, Mexico and Nepal. 44 of our members are based in 24 countries members of Council of Europe.
Membership of the Alliance is open to national organisations involved in international voluntary service in Europe. Member organisations promote international understanding, peace and voluntary service that enable people, particularly young people, to encounter and exchange with different cultures. Full membership is open to organisations from Europe, but organisations from other countries can become Associate Members. In order to become full or associate members, new organisations first receive the status of Candidate Members, which lasts for a minimum of two years and a maximum of 5 years.
